Recession-proof Your Livelihood

September 3rd, 2010

Some may view the state of America as an economic upheaval. I choose to view it as a workforce revolution. The operative word here is choose – the power of choice. Until now, work/life enablers like healthcare, retirement and administrative support were exclusively attached to the employer and not the worker. Not anymore. Now I have the freedom from administrative hassles and the freedom to spend 100% of my time on the things I love to do. Now I have the freedom from work/life enablers being selected for me and the freedom to choose the healthcare and retirement strategy that works for me – the Business of One. The freedom to be supported and successful on my terms. With more highly skilled knowledge workers unemployed or settling for J.O.B.’s below their competency, what about making the “One” New Year’s resolution that BOTH can help you keep? The “un job approach” to economic recovery

From Unemployed to Deployed – Part II

So now you’ve decided that you are “OK” with being laid off, unemployed, shown the door, obsoleted…whatever the case may be. And you’ve decided that you are ready to take destiny into your own hands and become your own master..but wait…Oh My…where to begin…

You know you need to legally set up your company (whatever that means). You know you need to find an accountant, a tax advisor, a bank…all the things you need to get your infrastructure up and running. And what about insurance, healthcare, retirement? Maybe you think these things aren’t important right now and that you can worry about these once you are established. But how long will it be until you are established? A day, a week, a month…gulp…a year?? Where will you find the services you need, and more importantly, how much is it going to cost? You may be living on your severance right now, or your spouse’s income (or you played the lottery and won a little something to hold you over)…whatever the case may be, your head is now swimming (and you may be drowning) with all the thoughts and pressures that come with starting your own business. If only you could just snap your fingers and all of this would work itself out and you could be free to do what you do best…wow the client with your talent. The easy and fun things that you like to do and that seem more natural. Start the engines so that payday will soon be coming…oh, if only it were that easy…

But wait, it actually can be that easy. I’ll let you in on a little known secret, not many people know about it but someday, I tell you, this is going to revolutionize they way people work and the way companies put people to work. It’s called BOTH!! BOTH, an acronym for “Back Of The House”, provides every support function that any self-employed professional, freelancer, or solo practitioner needs to be successful. The integrated set of services permanently empowers self-employed professionals to work for themselves, but not by themselves, by handling all operational and administrative hassles that commonly challenge them. BOTH simply and cost-effectively transforms self-employment into a professionally configured and completed supported “Business of One”. BOTH empowers you to work independently by providing you a personally owned company – complete with a thoroughly resourced back office and hosted IT infrastructure – access to health and retirement benefits and a team of administrative experts coordinated by your dedicated, experienced personal advisor.

Quite simply it’s your office in a box. All the hassle of setting up the company, applying for Federal ID numbers, opening a bank account, setting up a bookkeeping system, setting up an email and IT infrastructure, finding the best alternatives for insurances, and yes, even a retirement account and financial planning. Now you can have it all in one easy to use package that is easy to use and won’t break the bank. And the kicker: a real, live personal advisor to make it all happen for you. A person you talk to, who knows your name and not just your number.

As an accountant, most of what BOTH provides I could do on my own. But who wants to spend precious time on administrative hassles? I would much rather be spending my time on billable work so that I can enjoy the time I am not billing with my family or doing things I like to do to, like traveling, scrapbooking, or dare I say…throwing beads to a bunch of parade revelers at the Annual Gasparilla Pirate Invasion in Tampa, FL. Maybe it’s me, but I would much rather be doing that than researching what the Secretary of the State of Florida says I need to be doing to keep my business in compliance with its rules and regulations. What do I have to say about that…ARRRRGGG Matey…give it some thought and then call a personal advisor at BOTH and let her tell you about all the wonderful things you could be doing with your precious time once you are unburdened from the administrative hassles looming on the horizon of your new business.
